Reinforcement & Cost

In rubber compounding, fillers are essential for performance and cost control. While Carbon Black offers high reinforcement, it is expensive and limited to black products.

Darson Kaolin acts as a functional semi-reinforcing filler (Hard Clay). Its plate-like structure creates a "tortuous path" within the rubber matrix. This blocks crack propagation, improves air retention (permeability), and increases stiffness (modulus) at a significantly lower cost than Carbon Black or Precipitated Silica.

  • Increases Stiffness (Modulus)
  • Improves Abrasion Resistance
  • Excellent Air Barrier (Inner Liners)

Performance Characteristics

High
Modulus

Increases the stiffness and hardness of the rubber compound.

Low
Permeability

Platelet barrier reduces air passage, ideal for tire inner liners.

$$$
Cost Savings

Significant savings when replacing partial Carbon Black or Silica.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Hard Clay or Soft Clay?

Our Standard Grade (UT-CLAY Series) has fine particles and acts as 'Hard Clay', providing semi-reinforcement (stiffness). We can also supply coarser grades if 'Soft Clay' (loading only) is required.

Can it be used in tires?

Yes. It is widely used in the 'Inner Liner' (to prevent air loss due to its barrier properties) and in 'White Sidewalls' (due to its whiteness compared to carbon black).

Does it affect the curing process?

Kaolin is naturally slightly acidic (pH 4.5-5.5). In some formulas, you may need to slightly adjust your accelerator package (e.g., adding TIPA or DEG) to maintain cure speed, unlike neutral fillers like Calcium Carbonate.
