Kaolin for Paints

In the paint industry, Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) is the most expensive white pigment. If TiO2 particles crowd together (crowding effect), their light-scattering efficiency drops, wasting money.

Kaolin acts as a superior TiO2 Extender. Its fine, plate-like particles slot in between the TiO2 pigments. This "Spacing Effect" optimizes the distance between pigments, maximizing opacity (hiding power) while allowing you to use less TiO2.

  • Reduce TiO2 usage by 10-20%
  • Improve Scrub Resistance & durability
  • Enhance flow and leveling properties

Frequently Asked Questions

How does kaolin reduce costs?

Kaolin acts as a significantly cheaper Extender than Titanium Dioxide (TiO2). By helping disperse TiO2 pigments to work at maximum efficiency, manufacturers can reduce TiO2 loading without losing whiteness or opacity.

Does it affect paint gloss?

Our Standard grades generally provide a matt finish. However, our High Grade (UT-WHITE) is fine enough to be used in semi-gloss paints without significantly reducing the sheen.

Is it compatible with water and solvent-based paints?

Yes. Our kaolin has excellent compatibility and dispersibility in both water-based systems (emulsions) and solvent-based systems (enamels/alkyds).
